Gene Rogers, 77, of New Market, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018. He was a member of New Market Baptist Church. He started law enforcement in 1965 in Polk County, Florida and served with various police departments and sheriff offices. He retired from the U.S. Marshal service in Knoxville, TN. After retiring, Gene became the first Chief of Police for the City of New Market. For the last 10 years, Gene continued to serve the community as the New Market City Judge and Magistrate. He was preceded in death by his father, Lyman Frazier Rogers; mother, Lois Lyles; step-father, Robert Lyles; and infant son, Frazier Webster Rogers. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Judy Rogers; children, Chris (John) Douglas, Rick (Andrea) Rogers, Jim (Janet) Rogers; grandchildren, Marti Rogers, Tori Rogers, Joshua (Colleen) Luckey, Justin Luckey, John (Stephanie) Luckey; great-grandchildren, Catelyn, Sydney, Zach, Xander, Tiffany and Jacob Luckey; brother, Travis (Marilyn) Rogers; sister, Frazelle (Robert) Tucker; sisters-in-law, Gail Tyler and Marjorie McDonald; brother-in-law, Dennis (Mary) McDonald; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Memorial service 7:00 PM Saturday, July 14, 2018 at New Market Baptist Church with Dr. J.W. Taylor officiating and law enforcement honors provided by the New Market Police Department, Jefferson City Police Department, Morristown Police Department and the Hamblen County Sheriff Office. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Fielden Funeral Home in New Market.
