Edward Cleofice Layman, age 73, of New Market, Christian, loving husband, father, brother, and proud American Soldier, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, February 4, 2022, surrounded by his family. Edward was a U.S. Army Veteran and Vietnam War Veteran. He was a member of AMVETS and Volunteer State Honor Guard for many years. Edward was also a retired miner, logger and farmer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Telia Layman; parents, Cleofice and Dora Layman; sister, Hazel Mae; brothers, Curtis and David Layman; 4 grandchildren born into eternal life, Kara Melody Layman and her 2 siblings, and Cadaline Wilson; son-in-law, Denver Cantrell; and sister-in-law, Kathy Layman. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Scarbrough Layman; children, Colonel Chad (Tina) Layman, Adria Cantwell (Daniel), Jessica (Johnny) Wilson and Kelsey (Steven) Tolbert; step-children, April Reed (Rob), Cory (Juwann) Maynard, Michael (Claudia) Dixon, and Joshua Fry; grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, Angelina Alora (Ricky) Alea, Devin, Connelly, Aniya, Kinsley, Stryder, Stryker, Chandler, Cadence, Catalina, Calleigh, Abriel, Isaiah, Maddy, Levi, Gavin, Silas and Myles; sisters, Arletta (Jay) Beasley and Anita (Sammy) Hurst; brother, Howard Layman Funeral service 6:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at New Era Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne White officiating. Interment 10:00 am Wednesday in East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with military honors and Rev. Mark Scarbrough officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Fielden Funeral Home in New Market.
